Fun on the River

Nothing in the world compares to an afternoon spent canoeing, kayaking, floating, or embarking on an SUP journey by standup paddle boarding on the mighty Deschutes. This crystal-clear river winds its way through the heart of the city, so you can savor your Bend sightseeing with a side of aquatic adventure. The new Bend Whitewater Park opened September 2015 at the Colorado Avenue Dam on the Deschutes River. Open to the public and free for all to enjoy, this state-of-the-art park features a floater's channel, a nature habitat channel, and a whitewater channel with waves created by electronically controlled pneumatic bladders.

The rivers of the Deschutes Basin truly define this region and are considered by many as our most treasured natural asset. Yet, beautiful as they may appear, our rivers are challenged by low streamflow in certain seasons, and by poor water quality. Learn more by clicking the link below.
